James H. Koch is the former president of Daniels Insurance in Santa Fe. A former legislator, Mr. Koch was the original author of the Inspection of Records Act, the New Mexico equivalent of the national Freedom of Information Act that protects the rights of all people to access public information and records. A longtime New Mexico public servant, he has served as state chair of the Democratic Party in 2002 and as a key advisor to current and former Governors for four decades. He received his bachelor’s degree in education from UNM in 1959. He was appointed to the UNM Board of Regents in January 2003, January 2009 and January 2015. Mr. Koch, who retired from the Board of Regents on December 31, 2015, was a member of the UNM Board of Regents for 13 years, where he served most recently as chair of the Regents’ Finance and Facilities Committee and the Lobo Development Corporation Board of Directors.
