STC provides paid student internships to current University of New Mexico students interested in technology transfer.
The student internship at STC.UNM provides a combination of experiences including learning about the field of technology transfer (intellectual property and commercialization). STC student interns have the opportunity to work with STC staff, attend STC educational seminars including presentations from visiting patent attorneys and companies, as well as interact with local entrepreneurs and investors. This position will benefit anyone that would like to get a better understanding of the intersection of business, science, and law. Position reports to STC's Marketing Operations Coordinator.
This entry-level position will handle marketing support activities. It will provide a combination of experiences including learning about the field of technology transfer by entering information into STC's proprietary database which tracks all intellectual property, marketing, and licensing activities. This position will also create weekly reports, help with event management, contact list building, and some aspects of social media.
Additionally, the position will include conducting prior art searches for new invention disclosures, procuring references for Invention Disclosure Statements (IDS), identifying potential licensees, recording marketing activities and interactions, developing marketing materials and elements of business plans, and other special projects.
Candidates, at a minimum, should be starting their sophomore or junior year in a biology or related life-sciences discipline, engineering, chemistry, physics, computer science, business, MIS, MPA, or JD discipline. Some experience working in a professional office preferred. Candidates for this position should be adept at computer skills, must have great organization skills and must be keen to detail. Candidates must be enrolled students at UNM (min. of 6 credit hours) for the duration of the internship and maintain a 3.00 GPA.
